How to download Umo App / create an account?

1. Search Umo Mobility App in app store and download.
2. The app is Free to open, Click “Get started”.
3. Optional: The app will request permission to access your location to assist you with future trip planning. While it does not need to be turned on, it is recommended to utilize the app’s full functionality. Select,

  • Allow Once: To allow the Umo App to determine your location initially.
  • Allow While Using App: To allow the Umo App to always recognize your location while you’re using it.
  • Don’t Allow: To block the Umo App from determining your location.

4. Tap ‘Continue’ and make your location selection.
5. Choose ‘Allow’ – if you like to get live updates and allow notifications for real-time transit alerts, service updates, and more. This is an optional feature and does not need to be turned on.
6. Click ‘Set up’ – To set up your account to buy your fares.

How you can get a Cash Balance fare product using Umo Mobility App?

1. On the main screen of the Umo App, Click “Wallet”.
2. My Wallet screen — select Cash Balance — Add Cash.
3. Click ‘Select Amount screen’ select the desired amount you want to add, and tap ‘Continue’.
4. Tap ‘Purchase’ — On the Confirm Your Purchase screen.
5. Click ‘Payment Method screen’, enter your payment method information and ‘Continue’.
6. Your Cash Balance fare product is now loaded to your account.

What is Cash Balance?

BC Transit offers a new fare product “Cash Balance” through the Umo app or reloadable card. A Cash Balance, sum of money loaded to a rider’s Umo account that gets deducted from as additional trips are taken.

How does Cash Balance work with a DayPASS or transfer?

Umo will cap your Cash Balance payment method after your second trip of the day, meaning that you’ll never pay more than the value of a DayPASS when using a Umo payment method. In transit system, it offer a transfer, an electronic transfer will be automatically applied to your Umo payment method allowing for continued travel on a second bus within 90-minutes of departure without incurring an additional fare. You can tap or scan your original payment method on your second bus to continue to travel without incurring an additional charge.

How to buy a Pass fare product using Umo?

1. Go to main screen of the Umo App –> Wallet.
2. My Wallet screen —> Passes —> Buy a pass.
3. Click “Select Pass screen”, select the pass you want to purchase.
4. Tap ‘Purchase’ –> On the Confirm Your Purchase screen.
5. Select ‘Payment Method screen’ –> Enter your payment method information —> ‘Continue’.
6. Your Pass fare product loaded in your account.

What to do, if you’re ready to travel?

  • Before stepping aboard the bus, you may open Umo app.
  • Select “Validation Code” to display your dynamic QR code.
  • Present your QR code to the Umo digital validator.
  • Look and listen for the validator’s confirmation signals.
  • A checkmark and single beep means your fare accepted.

How is a 30-Day Pass different from a Monthly Pass?

  • A 30-Day Pass is a new fare product that provides you with the same long-term benefits of unlimited travel a Monthly Pass offers but can now be started on any day of the calendar month.
  • It will kick in on the date of its first use, not purchase.
  • Riders using a Umo payment method will receive an electronic DayPASS applied to their Umo app or card after validation on their second trip of the day, allowing them to ride for free for the remainder of the day.
  • In transit systems that offer a DayPASS, Umo will always cap a rider’s Cash Balance payment after their second trip off the day, meaning they will always receive the same value as a DayPASS when riding with Umo.

What will happen to the Monthly Pass fare product?

  • With the exception of handyDART services, Monthly Pass fare products removed from circulation in favour of the convenient 30-Day Pass available through the Umo app or reloadable Umo card several months after Umo is launched in a transit system.

1. What to do, if i can’t find the Umo app in the app store?

  • You must connect to a Canadian app store to download the Umo Mobility app that will connect to BC Transit services. The app found in both Canadian Apple App and Google Play stores by searching “Umo Mobility”.

2. Do I need to use cellular data to use the Umo app?

  • No. If you’ve a fare loaded to your Umo account, your app will make the connection and validate your fare product if you have cellular data turned off or in an area outside of cellular service.
  • The mobile app does not need to use data to validate your fare.

3. How to change the language in the Umo App?

  • In the app’s menu, select Settings > Preferred Language for Umo > and select your desired language.

4. May I change my Umo payment method from a Umo card to an app and vice versa?

  • Umo payment methods can’t be used interchangeably, you must choose only one.

5. Why did the Umo validator display a yellow checkmark instead of the green checkmark?

  • A yellow checkmark signals that your fare was accepted but your remaining cash balance has dipped below $2.50 or your pass is set to expire within 72 hours.

6. Can I tap/scan my Umo payment method when depart the bus?

  • No. Only tap your Umo card or scan your Umo app once upon boarding the bus.

7. Will BC Transit still offer a DayPASS, how will that work?

  • Yes, riders in transit systems that offer a DayPASS can still purchase a paper DayPASS aboard the bus with cash or two tickets

8. How long does the Monthly or Semester Pass valid?

  • All Monthly Passes accepted until the pass’ expiry date.
